Wishing all of you a happy and safe new year!

For the first, I'll be on the street where old friends meet... watching the Mummers!

Here is some lowdown on what exactly Auld Lang Syne means...

dublog is a blog about online art exhibitions - but the art doens’t necessarily have to be “high” art, just interesting... check out some of the cool and unusual entries.

El Vez has an old-skool photobooth. Think Wildwood boardwalk. Clockwise, Sue up top, my finger, Mr. Flax, Cashdollar, Monica and Eric in the middle. It was great to see you Justin, even if only for a little while and though the haze of fever and Hipnotiq. Thanks to Moni Love for the piccy scan.

Go now and rent Laurel Canyon and chill to the decidedly Californinan soundtrack.

SuperJumboTron... very cool, PECO on steroids. Thanks again to Moni Love.

ADC Awards Call for Entries deadline January 16th... get your acts together... I gotta get mine...

Merry merry!

Sky Captain looks pretty darn good, very Metropolis-like...

This G5 is a bit stubby, eh?

Russian anti-alcohol posters... very cool.

Steve of Blues Clues fame, has put out a rock album... and from the snippets I’ve heard it’s pretty good...

Typeflake is nifty.

SENT, America’s first phonecam art show, coming soon...

12.22.2003
Winter officially arrived this morning at 2:09.

Saddam Claus.

Peter Billingsely (Ralphie from Christmas Story) was in Elf and co produced Made (which you will recall had the scene featuring my Spooks logo)... read more here... thanks to Monica for the heads-up...

Tiny Mix Tapes are cool... better than HitClips...

BASE, one of my favorite stores on Lincoln Road in SoBe, has been voted in 2003 as one of GQ’s 12 favorite stores in the world, one of the Ten Hippest Stores in America by MSN and by citysearch as their number one store in the US. Congrats!

Hot tips for working with iTunes. Also, code for linking songs to the ITMS...

Been thinking more about the whole DJ/MP3J thing, and it’s interesting how the iPod makes things so easy... check out the low down on 2 no-wax events held in London and NYC (I think I blogged about the APT event earlier this year) and the pros and cons in this article.

Good news... last ditch efforts by preservationists saved the Farnsworth House, master work of architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, from possible relocation and an uncertain future.

Spy shots of the new ’05 MINI Cooper, slightly restyled... basically the front bumper is pared down, and the rear tails get changed.

Steve Jobs says pretty interesting stuff to Rolling Stone.

Ever heard a song you liked in a commercial, but didn’t know what it was? Some companies, like VW and Apple, are letting the curious know what songs they use in campaigns... but for other commercials and things like movie trailers, it takes a bit more detective work... a great tool to help you in your search is Adtunes.com, a blog and forum for researching and asking questions about music used in stuff... it took me all of 3 seconds to find out that it was in fact Fat Boy Slim, not the Chemical Brothers, playing in the commercials for ABC’s Line of Fire.

Uh... we all know it’s a Chrysler...

LV home... the size of my current loft, only $30,000, and kinda cool in a modernish minimalist way... “You killed the car, Cameron...”

Holiday party was quite the success! Thanks to everyone who came, and thanks for all the stuff you guys brought... I might have to have a “leftovers” party to make some space in the fridge...

Now this is how a portfolio site is done...

Spider senses tingling... must be the new Spidey trailer...

Sick of using tired old Lorem Ipsum for dummy text in your mockups? Try this dummy text generator for a much more satisfying result...

I want to build a stinkbug. Seriously. This is one of the closest examples to the project I've been brewing in my noggin that I've seen. Ballsy 6 inch chop. Early Ford spokers. All black. Wow. If only I can find the space... and get my hands on some welding equipment... and, oh yeah, I guess I need me a beetle, too...

Good source of band name origins here... discovered the Foo Fighters are named after strange UFO-like appearances during WWII. Fascinating. More on the subject here, here and here...

Another equally interesting WWII-era story is the origin of “Kilroy was here”...

This was my three-hour commute this morning...

12.10.2003
Finally, all those “concerned for my safety” and that think I should have gotten “a much safer truck” can read this... Take a good look at the test dummy’s legs. Even though the MINI may be small, the MINI is safe. Safer maybe because it is small, in that it can more actively avoid accidents. Safer than all those much larger SUVs out there. Safer, in fact, than the number one selling car in America - the Ford F-150. Tremendously safer. That’s disturbing, considering the millions of them out there, and the yahoos behind the wheels... and more disturbing in that they share platforms with the Expedition and Excursion, both marketed as family transportation. Granted, this test was done last year, and both companies have released newer versions of these vehicles... but there are more of these older vehicles on the road now than newer ones. What’s even more disturbing is how terribly the vehicle fared. Consider this... trucks are almost 25% more likely to be involved in fatal crashes. Is that what they mean by “Built Ford Tough”?

Awesome post & effects.

Choice rides at the Mooneyes Xmas Party... thanks for the heads up Bri...

12.08.2003
With the exception of the Iconfactory, this is the best collection of cool Mac OSX icons I've seen in some time...

12.05.2003
Yes, I’m here at work early, on the day of our first snowstorm, because of some goddamned hair accessory “emergency” here at work. Yes, you read that right, hair accessory “emergency”. Not life-threatening “emergency”, not national security “emergency”... a hair accessory “emergency”. An “emergency” that (of course) has yet to materialize, and that when it does, will not require the entire art department to come in early and stay late. The Weather Channel said this morning’s commute would be treacherous... (repeated for added emphasis) treacherous! Is it worth risking life and limb to make my company’s president that much richer? Pardon my French, but fuck, no.

Whatever.

Check out Netomat. Pretty shwank.

Also, new movies coming out... check the trailers for “Butterfly Effect”, Troy and the new Potter flicks...

12.04.2003
I don’t get the new Pepsi campaign... who the hell drinks Pepsi while eating spaghetti? Who drinks Pepsi anyway? At least their interactive Evo wallpaper thing is kinda cool. Well, kinda.

Hey Alex.... um, hi!

More linkage. Half the time I put stuff here just so I can remember it.

Daily Report.
Web Page Design for Designers.

Hey all. Been a while. Hope your Thanksgiving holiday was tryptophantastic.

To make up for the time off, here’s a cornucopiastic crapload of linkage for you to stare at while you should be working:

Build and race Swedish slot cars.

Build and save EPS snowflakes.

Watch Harvey Krumpet.

Gawk at cool old signs.

Gawk at cool old “ephemeral” films.

Gawk at a very nicely designed package design site.

Some links stolen from Veer. They rock.

Somewhere in the middle of all this, I realized there’s way too much work on my site, and that not all of it is good. Pruning in progress. Stay tuned.
