New Chemical Brothers album, remixed by special guests and available as a free download, by those who remixed Prodigy. Hooray!

Been updating some of the sister (brother? sibling?) sites - my photoblog, R5 blog and the still-developing MINI blog. Check out today's found bit, part of hopefully a series of photos I want to start capturing... old signage and the like.

Along those lines, when checking out Monica's blog, I came across this collection of the old Schmidt's Brewery, which used to be about 1 block away from my loft, before it was torn down. Beautiful. There's even a (crappy) video of the demolition.

annualcreditreport.com - this central site allows you to request a free credit file disclosure (credit report) once every 12 months from each of the nationwide consumer credit reporting companies: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. That's right, not $9 or more free, but really free.

OK... I know this is exactly 30 days too late, but check out this collection of New Year's Eve/Day QTVR panoramas from around the world... of course Philly and the Mummers are represented! Gleaned from Mofro, whose site I need to check much more frequently...

Remember.

Bangin' new GTI commercial (QuickTime, 5.6 MB)... well done... I'm currently trying to figure out who remixed Mr. Kelly's famous song... anyone???

Style de Vie, vintage paper ephemera, and Twenty Gauge, vintage American steel furniture... great stuff...

"Scent of a Robot" (QuickTime, 15.4 MB) is a nifty animation video for a realtively nerdy rap. Strangely intersting.

Funny... yesterday, I mentioned "Rendevouz" by Claude Lelouche... and today, Jalopnik posts a link to a posted QuickTime version (34 MB). I really feel bad for Kendra, er, I mean Santa, who jumped through hoops to locate a copy on DVD for me...

Chank remodels and offers the first

This weekend, while hunkering down for the snowfall, we rented "A Man and a Woman" by Claude Lelouche. (His 9-minute "Rendevouz" is some incredible motoring, as any who've seen it will attest.) Anyways, this past Friday was the 39th anniversary of the infamous Cooper disqualification at Monte Carlo. Turns out one of the main characters in the movie is a race car driver for Ford, and takes part in this very rally, championing a Mustang... while preparing for the race, a team member voices concern about the Coopers! They even talk about the problems over the disqualifications... what a cowinkie-dink.

O to be young, or at least a bit smaller... Zoospeed is a maker of fine scale-model motorized "pedal" cars, quite possibly the ultimate toy. I mean, who wouldn't want to be James Dean in minature, cavorting around in a 550 Spyder? Not only that, they have other models of Porsche, including racers... but what really gets me is that they have Jags... I still keep my own original pedal-Jag in my living room... I may now need to extend my collection...

Speaking of minatures, and cars, and minature cars, and cool minature cars, hows about a absolute scale replica of a Ferrari 312PB? When I say absolute scale, I mean it has a working flat 12 100cc engine, complete with valves, that even sounds like a Ferrari! Complete with a working 6 speed transmission with reverse! The builder says it took him 3 years to make the drawings and 12 years to build the model from scratch. Every single part was made by hand.

Speaking of MINIs, Michelle just posted an illustration on her site, an illustration which uses my old MINI (RIP) as reference...

Hooray! Just got my repaired iPod back from PDASmart... they were a bit slow (took about a week, rather than the two business days they quote - without my music, that's like, forever)... but from what I can tell so far the repair is top notch. I supplied the jack, which I snagged from eBay, and they discounted the price for me. There was some damage to the solder pads as well, and they fixed it for $25 (as opposed to the $140 replacement board iPod ResQ wanted for the same problem). Overall better than buying a new iPod. On top of it all, I lost nothing - came back with all my stuff on it and still half-charged!

Before using the iPod again, I trimmed 1/8" off a white mechanical pencil eraser tip, popped out a hole in the center using a regular hole punch, and crammed it in the cavity around the fragile jack edges. I won't be able to use the remote (which I don't anyway), but hopefully that will stop it from cracking again.

Finally, I will no longer be subject to classic rock blocks at the gym.

Speaking of bad music, look at this frightening new technology that can almost ensure top-crap-pop-chart music creation... how long before they reverse engineer this to actually make music... have they already?

FontAid III, a project uniting the typographic and design communities in raising funds to expedite relief efforts in the countris affected by the recent tsunami. Type designers, graphic designers and other artists are invited to contribute artwork which will become part of a typeface created exclusively for the Font Aid III effort. Dutch designer Max Kisman, contributor to past Building Letters and SOTA projects, developed the font’s concept — a collection of fleurons (also known as flowers or printers’ flowers). Much like the poppy, which has become a symbol for honoring the dead and assisting the living victims of war, Font Aid’s typographic flowers will serve as a symbol of remembrance and hope; a respectful tribute to those who have lost their lives; a helping hand extended to the survivors; and a reminder of the awesome power of nature. The finished font will be made available for sale, with all proceeds donated to Direct Relief International.

Flatpak house flat-out rocks.

Floating logos project appears, at first, to be relatively simple... but upon closer look, the imagery becomes quite fascinating. I especially like Jesus. Brought to you by Matt Siber, the photographer behind Untitled Project.

New Flash iPod??? It is without any screen (that's maybe because the slogan is "Life is random!"), small, with a shape more vertical than the other iPod. The color is white, and it seems like a small remote control that fits confortably in a single hand. Via Gizmodo.

Hey guys, help me out...

NOTE - AUCTION ENDED, CAMERA SOLD

Looking for a great digital camera on the cheap? I purchased a Nikon Coolpix 4300 as a Christmas gift for a family member, but they don't want it because the camera is a bit too large to fit in a small purse.

It's a really great camera - 2004 PC World Magazine Top 10 Digital Camera and PC World Magazine Best Buy. 4 megapixels and 3x optical zoom, automatic controls for easy point-and-shoot, superior exposure metering with Nikon's Matrix meter, 12 Scene Modes, and One-Touch Uploading gets pics on your computer easily. (Heck, I'd keep it, but I have a digital camera already.)

The box was opened and a few snaps were taken on Christmas morning, so I know it works, and then it was put back in the original box. All the original books, battery, plastic bags, you name it, everything that came with it is still in there. This is a brand-new camera, not refurbished or a demo or anything. It retails for $400... I'm asking $250, with FREE priority mail shipping and insurance.

Thanks for looking. Please pass this on if you know of someone who may be interested.
